• Albania

  We experienced Albania on our Balkan road trip, where mountain scenery, city life and a less touristy side of Europe made a lasting impression.

• Andorra

  We visited Andorra in winter, where the children learned to ski among the high Pyrenees and we enjoyed the tiny country on an active family holiday.

• Antigua & Barbuda

  We experienced Antigua and Barbuda as a Caribbean cruise stop with warm seas, tropical colours and the relaxed island mood that defined the journey.

  Travelling through Armenia and Georgia, we experienced the Caucasus through ancient churches, mountain scenery and hospitality that made the journey special.

• Azerbaijan

  Azerbaijan surprised us with modern Baku, mud volcanoes, the Caucasus Mountains and a warm family homestay in the mountain town of Lahij.

• Australia

  Australia has become one of our favourite countries after journeys along both coasts, through the outback and to Uluru, filled with nature and wildlife.

• Bahamas

  We experienced the Bahamas from our cruise as a brief encounter with clear Caribbean water, pale beaches and a relaxed island mood on our Christmas journey.

• Bahrain

  Bahrain was a short stop on our Gulf journey, where the modern island state offered another perspective on the region’s rapid development and contrasts.

• Barbados

  We have called at Barbados on two Caribbean cruises and remember the island for its warmth, tropical surroundings and sense of being far from home.

• Belize
• Bosnia and Herzegovina

  We experienced Bosnia and Herzegovina on a road trip with our baby daughter, where mountains, history and everyday life left a strong Balkan impression.

• Brazil
• Brunei

  In Brunei we discovered a wealthy and distinctive little sultanate on Borneo, from impressive mosques to an amusement park we almost had to ourselves.

• Bulgaria

  Bulgaria gave us Plovdiv, Sunny Beach, Mette’s 40th birthday and a demanding climb towards Musala—a journey of celebration, cities and mountains.

  Across three journeys we have experienced Canada from Niagara Falls and the eastern cities to Vancouver Island, Whistler and the Rockies in the west.

  We experienced Colombia through Cartagena on a Caribbean cruise, where the colourful historic city gave us an intense but brief encounter with the country.

• Costa Rica
• Cuba

  We have visited Cuba twice, experiencing everything from Havana’s classic American cars to Viñales, Trinidad, mountain hikes, diving and beaches.

• Cyprus

  Cyprus gave us a spring week of Mediterranean atmosphere, coastal scenery and an island where different cultures and histories meet.

• Denmark

  Denmark is our home and the starting point for every journey; in this archive it also appears through the Realm on our voyage to Greenland.

• United Arab Emirates

  We have visited the Emirates several times, experiencing Dubai as a world of skyscrapers, shopping, old souks and desert just beyond the city.

• Dominican Republic

  The Dominican Republic has been a stop on two of our Caribbean cruises, giving us brief encounters with tropical scenery and the island’s lively mood.

• Egypt
• Estonia

  We experienced Estonia on a Baltic Sea cruise, where meeting the Baltic region offered an interesting contrast to the Nordic stops on our route.

• Ethiopia
• Philippines

  We experienced the Philippines as a tropical island country of beaches, local everyday life and strong contrasts with the modern city of Singapore.

• Finland

  Finland formed part of our Baltic Sea cruise and gave us a brief view of another Nordic country shaped by the sea, city life and a calm atmosphere.

  Travelling through Georgia and Armenia, we experienced Georgia’s mountains, ancient culture and hospitality as a powerful introduction to the Caucasus.

• Grenada

  We experienced Grenada as a brief, colourful stop on a Caribbean cruise, surrounded by tropical warmth, green landscapes and the sea.

• Greece

  We have experienced Greece on four journeys—from Rhodes and Athens to the Peloponnese, Elafonisos, an island cruise and our own boat in the Ionian Sea.

  We experienced Hong Kong at New Year as an intense city of skyscrapers, harbour views, shopping and an energetic blend of Chinese and international culture.

  We have visited Indonesia several times, experiencing Bali, Lombok, Java and Borobudur—from beaches and temples to local cities and island life.

  Iran gave us one of our most intense journeys through Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Kashan and Darband—filled with history, hospitality and unexpected encounters.

  We have experienced Iceland by road and cruise, with waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, whale watching and hikes near small towns and deep fjords.

  Jamaica featured in our Cuba and Miami cruise journey, offering a brief Caribbean encounter with the island’s warmth, musical identity and lush scenery.

  Japan fascinated us through its mix of ultra-modern city life, ancient temples, precision, food culture and traditions that still shape everyday life.

• Virgin Islands

  The Virgin Islands have been stops on two Caribbean cruises, giving us brief experiences of tropical coasts, clear water and island life around the ports.

• Cape Verde

  In Cape Verde we experienced three very different islands with African everyday life, turtle snorkelling, fishing villages and spectacular hikes on Santo Antão.

• Kazakhstan

  We experienced Kazakhstan together with Kyrgyzstan on a Central Asian journey of vast distances, modern cities and landscapes opening towards the mountains.

• Kenya
• China

  We have experienced China on two journeys, from a New Year trip via Hong Kong to cities, historic sites and the striking contrast before North Korea.

• Kyrgyzstan

  Kyrgyzstan became the mountainous chapter of our Central Asian journey, with vast scenery, long roads and a closer encounter with the region’s nomadic culture.

• Kosovo

  We experienced Kosovo on our Balkan road trip as a young country with visible recent history, local everyday life and relatively few foreign tourists.

• Croatia

  We have visited Croatia on two very different journeys: first on a road trip with our baby, and later for Dubrovnik, Istria and an Adriatic cruise.

• Kuwait

  Kuwait was one stop on our Middle East journey, giving us a brief view of a modern Gulf state shaped by oil, urban life and desert.

• Laos
• Lesotho

  We experienced Lesotho on our southern African road trip as a high mountain kingdom and a striking contrast to neighbouring South Africa.

• Latvia

  We experienced Latvia on a Whitsun weekend in Riga, where the historic old town, Baltic atmosphere and easy access made it an ideal city break.

  Macao was a brief interlude on our Hong Kong and China journey, with casinos, Portuguese traces and a distinctive blend of European and Chinese culture.

• North Macedonia

  North Macedonia was a central part of our Balkan journey, with mountain scenery, city life and an engaging encounter with the region’s history and cultures.

• Malta

  Malta gave us a week in the Mediterranean with historic towns, rocky coastline, sunshine and a culture shaped by many different peoples over time.

  Moldova surprised us positively with Chișinău, countryside, low prices and the distinctive visit to Transnistria on our Easter journey.

• Monaco

  Monaco became our 100th country on a road trip along the French Riviera—a tiny, dense and luxurious state between mountains and the Mediterranean.

• Montenegro

  We experienced Montenegro on our first road trip with baby Alberte, where mountains rise directly from the Adriatic and Kotor became a highlight.

• Nepal

  Nepal gave us homestays with local families, a four-day Himalayan trek and sunrise from Poon Hill at an altitude of 3,210 metres.

• New Zealand

  We experienced New Zealand through camping, Hobbiton, hot springs, rafting, glowworms and the great Tongariro Alpine Crossing through volcanic scenery.

• Nicaragua
• North Korea

  North Korea became one of our most unusual journeys: a tightly controlled tour where monuments, glimpses of daily life and the system left a powerful impression.

• Norway

  We have experienced Norway by road and fjord cruise, with Bergen, steep mountains, deep fjords, dramatic roads and constantly changing scenery.

• Oman

  Oman has featured in two Gulf journeys, bringing together modern cities, traditional settings, mountains, coastline and vast desert landscapes.

• Panama

  In Panama we experienced both the famous canal and rainforest by kayak—an exciting cruise stop between great engineering and tropical nature.

• Peru

  Peru gave us desert, the Andes, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu on an active journey filled with nature, history and major challenges.

• Poland

  We have visited Poland on two journeys, from a summer trip with Berlin to a long weekend in Kraków filled with history, city life and easy travel from Denmark.

• Portugal

  We have encountered Portugal several times—from Faro and the Algarve to cruise calls and peaceful Porto Santo with long beaches and Atlantic island life.

• Romania

  We experienced Romania over two weeks of mountain scenery, historic towns and rural areas where traditions and everyday life remained clearly visible.

• Saint Lucia

  Saint Lucia has been a stop on two of our Caribbean cruises and remains in our memory as a lush, mountainous island with a distinctive tropical character.

• Saint Kitts and Nevis

  We experienced Saint Kitts and Nevis on a Caribbean cruise as a brief encounter with green hillsides, warm seas and calm island life around the port.

• Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was a brief stop on our Caribbean cruise, with small islands, blue water and the relaxed mood of the southern Caribbean.

• Saudi Arabia

  Saudi Arabia gave us Riyadh, desert and an ATV adventure on a journey through a country changing rapidly and still receiving few Western tourists.

• Switzerland
• Serbia

  Serbia surprised us with friendly people, few tourists, Belgrade, Zlatibor, hiking in Tara National Park and thermal baths.

• Singapore

  Singapore has started, ended or connected four journeys for us; we enjoy its mix of efficient city life, food culture, greenery and diverse neighbourhoods.

• Slovenia

  We have visited Slovenia on two road trips and especially remember Bled, green landscapes, mountains and the calm contrast with tourist areas in Italy and Croatia.

• Spain
• Sri Lanka

  Sri Lanka gave us beaches, whale watching, tea plantations, train journeys, cooking and mountain hikes from Little Adam’s Peak to World’s End.

• UK
• Sweden

  We have experienced Sweden on four journeys through Öland, Småland, Gothenburg, Halmstad, Helsingborg, Stockholm and most recently skiing in Stöten.

• Eswatini

  We experienced Eswatini on our southern African journey as a small, green kingdom with a slower pace and a clear identity of its own.

• South Africa

  We have travelled through South Africa twice, experiencing varied scenery, cities, road trips and wildlife as well as contrasts with Lesotho and Eswatini.

• South Korea

  South Korea became the open contrast to North Korea, with Seoul, Jeju, Busan, temples, volcano hiking, a homestay and trekking in Jirisan National Park.

• Taiwan

  Taiwan gave us seventeen days of energetic cities, night markets, temples, mountains and friendly everyday life that made the island easy and exciting to explore.

  We experienced Tunisia on a road trip from Monastir, Sousse and Tunis to Douz, a Sahara camel ride and the almost unreal salt landscape of Chott el Jerid.

  We have experienced Turkey on two journeys: first intense Istanbul, then an Easter week along the southern coast with ancient sites and Mediterranean atmosphere.
