    We experienced the Bahamas from our cruise as a brief encounter with clear Caribbean water, pale beaches and a relaxed island mood on our Christmas journey.

    Bahrain was a short stop on our Gulf journey, where the modern island state offered another perspective on the region’s rapid development and contrasts.

  • Barbados

    We have called at Barbados on two Caribbean cruises and remember the island for its warmth, tropical surroundings and sense of being far from home.

    Cyprus gave us a spring week of Mediterranean atmosphere, coastal scenery and an island where different cultures and histories meet.

    Denmark is our home and the starting point for every journey; in this archive it also appears through the Realm on our voyage to Greenland.

    We have visited the Emirates several times, experiencing Dubai as a world of skyscrapers, shopping, old souks and desert just beyond the city.

    We experienced Kosovo on our Balkan road trip as a young country with visible recent history, local everyday life and relatively few foreign tourists.

  • Croatia

    We have visited Croatia on two very different journeys: first on a road trip with our baby, and later for Dubrovnik, Istria and an Adriatic cruise.

  • Kuwait

    Kuwait was one stop on our Middle East journey, giving us a brief view of a modern Gulf state shaped by oil, urban life and desert.

    We experienced Montenegro on our first road trip with baby Alberte, where mountains rise directly from the Adriatic and Kotor became a highlight.

  • Nepal

    Nepal gave us homestays with local families, a four-day Himalayan trek and sunrise from Poon Hill at an altitude of 3,210 metres.

  • New Zealand

    We experienced New Zealand through camping, Hobbiton, hot springs, rafting, glowworms and the great Tongariro Alpine Crossing through volcanic scenery.

    North Korea became one of our most unusual journeys: a tightly controlled tour where monuments, glimpses of daily life and the system left a powerful impression.

    We have experienced Norway by road and fjord cruise, with Bergen, steep mountains, deep fjords, dramatic roads and constantly changing scenery.

  • Oman

    Oman has featured in two Gulf journeys, bringing together modern cities, traditional settings, mountains, coastline and vast desert landscapes.

  • Panama

    In Panama we experienced both the famous canal and rainforest by kayak—an exciting cruise stop between great engineering and tropical nature.

  • Peru

    Peru gave us desert, the Andes, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu on an active journey filled with nature, history and major challenges.

  • Poland

    We have visited Poland on two journeys, from a summer trip with Berlin to a long weekend in Kraków filled with history, city life and easy travel from Denmark.

  • Portugal

    We have encountered Portugal several times—from Faro and the Algarve to cruise calls and peaceful Porto Santo with long beaches and Atlantic island life.

  • Romania

    We experienced Romania over two weeks of mountain scenery, historic towns and rural areas where traditions and everyday life remained clearly visible.

  • Saint Lucia

    Saint Lucia has been a stop on two of our Caribbean cruises and remains in our memory as a lush, mountainous island with a distinctive tropical character.

  • Saint Kitts and Nevis

    We experienced Saint Kitts and Nevis on a Caribbean cruise as a brief encounter with green hillsides, warm seas and calm island life around the port.

  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

    Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was a brief stop on our Caribbean cruise, with small islands, blue water and the relaxed mood of the southern Caribbean.

  • Saudi Arabia

    Saudi Arabia gave us Riyadh, desert and an ATV adventure on a journey through a country changing rapidly and still receiving few Western tourists.

    Serbia surprised us with friendly people, few tourists, Belgrade, Zlatibor, hiking in Tara National Park and thermal baths.

    Singapore has started, ended or connected four journeys for us; we enjoy its mix of efficient city life, food culture, greenery and diverse neighbourhoods.

  • Slovenia

    We have visited Slovenia on two road trips and especially remember Bled, green landscapes, mountains and the calm contrast with tourist areas in Italy and Croatia.

  • Sri Lanka

    Sri Lanka gave us beaches, whale watching, tea plantations, train journeys, cooking and mountain hikes from Little Adam’s Peak to World’s End.

  • Sweden

    We have experienced Sweden on four journeys through Öland, Småland, Gothenburg, Halmstad, Helsingborg, Stockholm and most recently skiing in Stöten.

  • Eswatini

    We experienced Eswatini on our southern African journey as a small, green kingdom with a slower pace and a clear identity of its own.

  • South Africa

    We have travelled through South Africa twice, experiencing varied scenery, cities, road trips and wildlife as well as contrasts with Lesotho and Eswatini.

  • South Korea

    South Korea became the open contrast to North Korea, with Seoul, Jeju, Busan, temples, volcano hiking, a homestay and trekking in Jirisan National Park.

  • Taiwan

    Taiwan gave us seventeen days of energetic cities, night markets, temples, mountains and friendly everyday life that made the island easy and exciting to explore.
