Belize

We have visited Belize on two backpacking journeys. The first time, we crossed overland from Guatemala and quickly found the rhythm of Caye Caulker, where the motto “Go slow” suited hot days, hammocks, snorkelling and diving among sharks and deep coral canyons. We continued to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye and experienced a livelier, more tourist-oriented side of island life. Two years later, we arrived by boat from Honduras and travelled on to Tobacco Caye – a coral island so small that you can cross it in a moment. We rose early for the sunrise, fell asleep to the waves and discovered how simple life can feel when the sea fills everything. For us, Belize is above all its tiny cayes, Caribbean atmosphere and experiences both above and below the water.
