Iran surprised us with its immense cultural heritage and hospitality that contrasted sharply with its international image. We travelled through Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Kashan, the salt lake and Darband, and our encounters with Iranians became as important as the mosques, bazaars and historic sites.
