Phuket and Myanmar

Trip to Phuket and Burma Explore Phuket and Myanmar through our first-hand travel stories, photos, routes, practical tips and experiences.

Why go to Burma? Many people think it is wrong since you can´t avoid giving money to the military junta that governs the country. But remember, tourism also brings good things to the country. Burma reflects a country not found in many places anymore. It is unspoiled, undeveloped and the people possess a natural curious sense. Actually, many agree that this population is one of the most friendly in the world. Stay local, eat local and use local guides. Avoid organized tours as they accommodate their guests in expensive hotels, visit the expensive restaurants and drive around in big expensive buses. People want to learn more about the outside world. Everyone has access to the Internet due to "Free Gate" which is able to access webpages denied by the government. More and more people are learning English. Tourism provides an opportunity for the locals to earn extra money. Burma is cheap and a fantastic experience. It is easy to travel on a budget. Tourists will talk about their trip, tell their friends about the conditions of the country. This will put a pressure on the military junta to improve - slowly - living conditions for Burma´s people. Burma is easy to access through Thailand. This means a golden opportunity to visit Thailand's popular beaches before or after you are leaving Burma. We bought a return flight - only DKK 6500 - with KLM from Billund which is neither expensive nor a cheap price for airline tickets . The intention is that we are flying directly to Phuket , Thailand, where we will relax for 1 week before travelling on to Yangoon, Burma.
