Our schedule thankfully held up all the way to Bangkok, though our flight to Phuket was a bit delayed. On the plane, we struck up a conversation with a lady from Herning. She had also traveled a lot in her youth, but in recent years, it was more about first-class travel rather than backpacking. As she put it, they could afford the nice hotels. Her husband had been the director of Ege Tæpper for 31 years. Suddenly, we realized we knew some of the same people. Their son is training to be an engineer, and his final project is for Vestas. He’s studying at a university in Bangkok for a semester. She was on her way down to visit him. We arrived in Phuket at 5:30 PM. The high season starts on November 1st, so we’ve got just a couple of cheap days left. Our hotel, Thavorn Palm Beach Resort, is absolutely amazing. They had almost draped orchids all over our room—on the bed and around the sink in the bathroom. The toilet paper was folded like a fan. Our balcony has a sea view. We’ve landed in a real little gem. We slept well on the plane and felt pretty refreshed. We jumped in the shower and went out for dinner. You can definitely feel that we’ve arrived in a true tourist paradise. There are lots of families at Karon Beach. The humidity is incredibly high. What a heat we’re walking around in!
