Our flight back to Yangon was originally scheduled for tonight, but we managed to change it yesterday due to my illness. You really only want to go to the hospital in Myanmar as a last resort. So, we’re heading towards Bangkok in case we need any medical help. Fortunately, the fever was gone this morning. Food poisoning usually lasts about 24 hours if your body gets antibiotics to kill off the bacteria. So, we can thankfully enjoy our last few days in Myanmar. Our taxi driver from the airport told us he earns about 200 USD a month. If you work for the government, you make around 100 USD, but you also get some "under the table" money from the people. He also mentioned that people's smiles come from their culture, which even a bad government can't take away. The low crime rate is mainly due to their religion, but also because of the harsh punishments. Murder gets you 20 years, and theft gets you 10 years. We’re back in the heat. A room with air conditioning is a must. We’re staying at Motherland Inn for just 15 USD. It's a great backpacker spot with lots of visitors, so we can swap travel stories. It can be tough to get your appetite back when you walk past street kitchens that emit the strangest smells. Honestly, even the sight of the food can make a Danish stomach turn!
