Stuck in Bangkok

Well, it’s official. We’re stuck in Bangkok indefinitely. Our travel insurance has confirmed that they’ll cover our extra expenses while we’re here. We’ve changed our flight tickets to head home from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on Monday, December 1st, but we’re really hoping to get back sooner. The good news is we can switch our tickets back to depart from Thailand without any extra fees. Now we just have to wait and see how things unfold. It doesn’t seem like the local people are affected by the unrest, while all the tourists are talking about it since we’re more impacted by the airport closure. KLM has been really helpful and responsive to our questions. Like everyone else, they’re struggling to predict how the situation will develop. They’ve asked us to stay in Bangkok, hoping to resume their flights starting Sunday, November 30th. They’re already preparing for the many stranded passengers by scheduling more and larger planes. If we don’t hear from KLM by Saturday, we’re planning to head to Malaysia and fly home on Monday, December 1st. Given the circumstances, our hotel, Baiyoke Sky, has been super accommodating, keeping our room rate low and guaranteeing us an extra night. Normally, you have to book at least a week in advance!
