Around Hua Hin

Getting around in taxis or tuk-tuks in this city can be quite pricey. In fact, it’s way cheaper to rent a scooter for the day—only 150-200 baht! Hua Hin is a pretty small town and easy to navigate, so riding a scooter here is no problem at all. Just remember, they drive on the left side in Thailand. There are several beaches south of Hua Hin where you can almost have the whole place to yourself. These spots aren’t crowded with tourists or sun loungers. It’s such a lovely, peaceful setting where you can really enjoy nature. You’ll find vendors everywhere—even on the more secluded beaches—but there are definitely fewer of them. :) Renting a scooter is a quick and easy way to explore the area around Hua Hin. We rode through small fishing villages and got to see the local communities. You can also head over to Cha Am, another popular beach area where many people from Bangkok escape to on weekends. Just like in Bangkok, Hua Hin is a great place to get clothes tailored. There’s tough competition for customers, so you can negotiate the price pretty well. Jan had a suit made for 3200 baht, and we got it done in just 24 hours. There are several ways to get to Hua Hin. You can take a bus or a mini van. The bus is a bit cheaper but also slower. We opted for the mini van, which was really comfortable. It only cost 200 baht per ticket. If they try to charge you for luggage, that’s not right. It’s a fee they try to impose only on tourists. Just tell them you’ve used this company before and never paid for luggage.
