Clean food, fair prices...

Many restaurants have signs or menus that boast "Clean food, fair prices, and quality service." Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. We were really grateful we had bought antibiotics and rehydration powder in Thailand because we definitely needed them today. I ended up with a nasty case of travel sickness (you know, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever). I had to stay in bed all day while my fever climbed. Honny took care of me, bringing bananas, bread, and water, which is quite a challenge in a town that doesn’t have a single shop where you can buy food. He had to reach out to other guesthouses just to find something to eat. Later in the day, Jan also started feeling nauseous. This town really has a hygiene problem. Once the sun went down and the heat eased up, we decided to take a walk to get some fresh air and find something to eat. We picked a restaurant recommended by Lonely Planet. I asked for toast and was served some that had mold on it. That pretty much sums up the hygiene situation in this country.
