From the Rocky Mountains to Big Cities and Amish Country

A whole month of summer holiday in 2026 took us to Canada and the USA – from the Canadian Rocky Mountains to city life in New York and a truly special glimpse into Amish culture in Pennsylvania. 🇨🇦🇺🇸 The trip started in Calgary, where we picked up a huge 9.1-metre motorhome and spent 12 days driving through Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper National Park. We experienced Canada Day in Banff, cycled up to the turquoise Lake Louise, drove the breathtaking Icefields Parkway, and spotted elk and bears at our campgrounds along the way – some of the most beautiful nature we've ever experienced. We rounded off the motorhome leg with the Calgary Stampede, the world's biggest cowboy and rodeo festival. From there we flew to New York, where we stayed right on Manhattan, went celebrity-spotting and experienced the city that never sleeps. The trip continued with a rental car north to Pennsylvania, where we stayed as homestay guests with two different Amish families – a truly unique experience that felt like travelling 100 years back in time. We wrapped up the trip with a road trip through New England: Yale University, the cosy coastal towns of Mystic and Newport, seals and a canoe trip on Cape Cod, and finally a few relaxed days in Boston before heading home. A trip full of fantastic contrasts – from wild nature and motorhome life to big-city energy and a rare glimpse into a completely different culture. 🏔️🗽🐴
