🎓🇺🇸 Everyone knows Harvard and Yale – two of the world’s most famous universities. Today we headed to the latter, in New Haven, Connecticut. For the best experience you can join a free tour with a current or recently graduated student. It normally needs to be booked in advance, but we went into the visitor centre anyway, hoping there’d be a free spot. 🍀 We got lucky! We got the last spots on the 10.30 tour. On top of that, it was completely free ✔️ Our guide had just finished her master’s degree in urban design and architecture at Yale, and that really made the experience extra special. She showed us around the university, told us about student life, showed us the libraries, the beautiful courtyards and even the residence hall where she’d lived for the last four years. That’s simply the best way to experience a university. 🏛️ You get all the little stories you’d never discover on your own. It made the experience even more special that it was actually her very last tour, before she leaves for Atlanta to start her first job. 👏 📚 A few fun facts about Yale: 🔹 Yale was founded in 1701, making it one of the USA’s oldest universities. 🔹 The university has around 15,000 students across bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programmes. 🔹 Only around 4-5% of applicants are admitted, making it one of the hardest universities in the world to get into. 🔹 Tuition, housing and other expenses can run to more than 90,000 USD a year (more than 600,000 DKK). 🔹 In return, many students receive financial aid. Yale has a need-based financial aid scheme, and families with low or moderate income can often get most – and in some cases all – of the tuition covered. 🔹 Yale has educated 5 American presidents, countless Supreme Court justices, Nobel laureates and famous actors. 🔹 The university library holds more than 15 million books, making it one of the largest university libraries in the world. 📖 In the evening we arrived in the cosy coastal town of Mystic in Connecticut, where we were spending the night.
