Cape Verde
Two weeks across three Cape Verde islands with turtle snorkelling, fishing villages, African atmosphere and spectacular hikes on Santo Antão.
We spent two weeks on three of Cape Verde's ten islands: Santiago, Sao Vicente and Sao Antao. On Santiago we experienced the fishing village of Tarrafal and the capital Praia. We rented a car and drove through dramatic mountain landscapes. The island is reminiscent of Africa with local life everywhere. Sao Vicente offered snorkeling with turtles at Sao Pedro and the beautiful colonial town of Mindelo with live music and colorful colonial houses. On Sao Antao, we spent several days hiking through impressive mountain landscapes. A 14 km hike along the coast to the isolated village of Formiguinhas, which can only be reached on foot. The nature on Sao Antao is magnificent and the most beautiful island in Cape Verde. The journey also had its challenges. Our domestic flight was canceled when the airline went bankrupt, so we had to rebook and find alternative solutions. In the diaries you can read about the hikes, flight problems, prices and local experiences on the islands.
