We will continue today to Monteverde and Santa Elena. We must, with van-boat-van for 18 usd per person, which takes three hours. The local bus runs around the lake and therefore takes approximately 7 hours along very poor roads. Way after the boat and to Monterverde and Santa Elena is also really bad. It is incredibly hilly and gravel road is full of holes and mud. But the view is excellent. Monterverde and Santa Elena are two cities, close side by side. They are known to have both cloud forest and rainforest. Cloud forest is characterized by much made hanging clouds all the time, plenty of moisture and rain, moss and frogs. Rainforest is also characterized by heavy rains, but there is not the same humidity and low hanging clouds. The vegetation is also different. Here grow more medicinal plants and flowers. There are as many hotels and restaurants in Santa Elena, so here we live. Both towns are not cheap but full of activities - hiking, canopy tours, horseback riding, rafting, coffee plantation and their famous cheese factory. We went on a two-hour overnight walk (20 USD per person) and was run out in the woods at sunset around at. 18, where we were fitted with a lamp and a guide who could tell everything about the forest plants and animals. Especially many of the animals are very active in the evening and at night when theyre looking for food. Monteverde and Santa Elena is the place where North Americas natural and South Americas nature meet. Hence the animals from every continent their living alongside each other. We saw foxes, raccoons and poisonous tarantulas - not dead, they only get your hand to sleep if they bite. We try to keep a reasonable budget, so we went to the grocery store to buy dinner. Hygiene is good there, so we are not afraid of being sick. We just think that the food can be a bit too expensive in restaurants.
