Exploring La Palma 🚗

Where are we staying in La Palma? 🌋🌅 We are staying in the cozy tourist area of Los Cancajos at the 4-star Hotel Las Olas. We have our own balcony with a sea view – perfect for enjoying the sunrise with a cup of coffee ☕️. A truly lovely way to start the day. We upgraded our room and are paying about 900 DKK per night for all four of us. Every morning, a new cruise ship glides into the harbor in Santa Cruz de La Palma – they seem to be getting closer and closer 😄🚢 Despite the cruise ship, the island feels much less touristy than Tenerife and Gran Canaria. We also rented a car, and it’s definitely a must in La Palma. The island is perfect for road trips, small villages, volcanic landscapes, and spontaneous stops along the way 🚗✨ --- Yesterday, we explored the southern part of the island, so today we headed north. From the main town, it’s just under 40 km to the northern tip of La Palma, which practically takes about 45 minutes by car. As almost always on the island, this means lots of mountain driving, hairpin turns, and beautiful views along the way. Our first stop was La Fajana, where there are natural sea pools shaped by lava. It’s truly a cool place with the mountains and a wild sea in the background. Plus, there was completely free access. A perfect spot for a break and a dip. On our way back to the main town, we set our course for some small villages, and especially San Andrés made an impression. Small cobblestone streets, colorful Canarian houses with wooden balconies, and a cozy, authentic atmosphere – definitely one of the island's most beautiful villages. Back in Santa Cruz de La Palma, we visited Maroparque Isla de La Palma – a rescue center for exotic animals. To be honest, we didn’t quite know what to expect… and it turned out to be quite an experience🙈 It is undoubtedly the craziest place we have been to in a long time. You walk freely among a sea of large birds that fly closely past you. Especially Mette was a bit stressed by the situation – and it didn’t help that one of the birds suddenly jumped onto her back 😅 In addition, there were monkeys that, to put it mildly, had quite the temperament. We quickly found out that if you smiled at them, they became downright aggressive… as in really angry 😬 The fact that there are no large zoos or amusement parks in La Palma is actually just fine✔️ It’s more about the nature being in focus🙏
