We had made plans with the Canadian couple to go diving today. Well, actually, Honny was diving, and I was just going along to snorkel. Two dives cost 180 Belize dollars. Unfortunately, Frenchies Dive Shop didn’t have enough space for all of us, so Honny went out with Big Fish to dive. They didn’t have room for me. He ended up going with some folks from the snorkeling tour. It’s funny how you keep running into people on this island. They dove in deep canyons alongside sharks, which was really beautiful. Sadly, I can’t recommend Big Fish because the dive instructor didn’t keep a proper eye on the group. He just swam off without checking if everyone was with him. Others have found that if the dive instructor is local, they tend to be too relaxed about safety. It’s definitely better if a foreign instructor is in charge. While they were diving, I wandered around in the heat to see if there were any good things to buy. Everything is just too expensive though :) In the middle of the afternoon, I walked up to the beach where the dive trip had started to meet Honny. Diving always takes a toll on the body, so he was pretty tired. After a little rest, he was back on his feet. We’re staying right next to the local basketball court where the locals practice. Honny ended up in an intense game with tourists against locals :) We had dinner at Sports Bar, where we enjoyed grilled shrimp, burritos, and drinks. It was a bit pricey since drinks cost more than beer, but I can’t drink beer :( The total came to 71 Belize dollars. Later, we ran into the Canadian couple who had eaten at the place with the big guy and the lobsters. People keep coming back there once they’ve tried it once. We ended up forming a little group with some Brits, Swedes, Americans, and Canadians for a pub crawl. It was a lot of fun :) The temperature in the evening is just perfect, and it feels so safe here. It’s really nice to stroll around the sandy streets and find the best spots to grab a drink.
