The Economic Crisis

The economic crisis is raging in the USA, and it’s showing up in a lot of ways. Stores are having “Going Out of Business” sales, and TV ads promise that you can return your new car if you lose your income. Other commercials encourage people to clean out their attics and drawers because old gold jewelry could be worth a lot of money. “Buy American,” they say, “so the money stays in the USA and helps secure jobs.” People are scared of losing their jobs. In Orlando’s big theme parks, the number of visitors has already dropped. Many workers are putting in long hours for just $3 an hour, with tips making up a huge part of their income. They don’t have much saved up for tough times unless they’re spending their money really wisely. Everyone seems to be bracing for the worst, convinced they haven’t seen the worst of it yet. Crime is on the rise too. Several people have told us, “People are ready to kill for your shoes.” Others aren’t above stealing food from supermarkets if it means feeding their kids. Some are so afraid of the outcome of Obama’s presidency that they’re comparing him to Hitler. Hitler rose to power during the Great Depression of the 1930s. He was a great speaker who convinced many that he could save them and secure a brighter future. Obama’s opponents see him in the same light. Yes, there’s a huge difference in how Americans view the world. Religion, sexuality, abortion, and skin color can still divide people here. Attitudes vary greatly depending on which state you’re in.
