Tour of Chiang Mai

A tuff bike ride up the mountain Doi Suthep near Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Doi Suthep Mountain is just 15 kilometers from Chiang Mai, and Honny was eager to take it on. He couldn't get enough of our mountain biking adventure in Laos. I wasn't keen on cycling 16 kilometers uphill, so we rented a little motorbike (a scooter for 200 baht) for me and a mountain bike for Honny (50 baht). It was a tough ride for Honny up the mountain. I rode alongside him with water in hand. For 70 minutes, Honny pedaled uphill without a single break. When we finally reached the temple, we took a well-deserved pause. There was still a chance to go further up, so we pushed on for another 4 kilometers to reach a palace at the very top. Those last 4 kilometers were extra challenging. It was a steep climb! At the palace, we wanted to head to a beautiful viewpoint. But I accidentally gave it too much gas while braking at the same time, and the scooter tipped over—at a slow speed, thankfully. I landed awkwardly on my elbow, and it ended up breaking. At first, we thought I was fine since I could still bend it. We cleaned up my scrapes, and since the scooter was still operational, Honny rode it down the mountain while I took a taxi with the bike in tow. We were a bit worried about the bill for the damage to the scooter, but luckily it only came to 1000 baht. Just to be safe, we decided to go to the hospital since my elbow was still hurting. I got some X-rays done, and they revealed a clean break just below the elbow. The hospital recommended surgery, but we needed to check with our insurance company first. They agreed, so I ended up having surgery that same evening. In the hours leading up to the operation, Honny managed to get the first fitting done for the clothes we had ordered the day before. The tailors had to finish my clothes without fittings, but thankfully, they ended up fitting just fine anyway.
