Tailored Clothing

At 7 in the morning, we arrived in Hoi An, the place to get clothes tailored in Vietnam. The bus made its rounds to different hotels, and we could choose where we wanted to stay. This time, we decided to find a hotel on our own, so we hopped off the bus. But it turned out that the hotels they recommended were just as good and not more expensive than the others. We opted for a slightly pricier hotel, but the quality was top-notch—just $8 a night, including air conditioning. The first room they showed us was right next to the restaurant, so we could hear every bite being chewed. Luckily, it was easy to get a new room. After breakfast, we went up to catch some sleep so we’d be fresh for our hunt for a good tailor. We rented a couple of bikes to make it easier to get around the city and check out the countless tailor shops. We asked some other travelers where they had bought their clothes and chatted with three tailors before settling on one. And then we really went for it with our orders! I got measured for two skirts, a top, a pair of pants, and a pajama set. Honny ordered a shirt and pants. In total, it cost $66 after we snagged a $5 discount. On our way back to the hotel, we decided to order even more clothes from another shop that had been recommended to us. I ordered a shirt, while Honny got a shirt, a pair of pants, and a kimono. That came to $58 altogether. The shop owner was incredibly hospitable, treating us to dinner, water, and beer. We spent the whole day getting measured, explaining how we wanted the clothes designed, and picking out fabrics.
