Skagway

Today we visit Skagway on our cruise. A small, historic town in Southeast Alaska with about 1,000 permanent residents - but in the summer it's visited by up to 10,000 cruise passengers a day😛 Today there are 4 cruise ships, so the town is teeming with people 😎 The town of Skagway became famous during the Klondike Gold Rush in 1898, when it served as the gateway to gold in Canada. It's a city that almost functions as a living museum. Old buildings restored to look like something from the late 1800s 👌 We also rented bikes and took a ride out to the outskirts of town. Here we visited Gold Rush Cemetery, an old cemetery where several famous people from the gold rush are buried, including the infamous Soapy Smith. We continued on to Yakutania Point, a viewpoint with great views of the fjord and mountains - and the opportunity to spot seals, whales and eagles along the coast. However, we only saw a few eagles 🦅 In the afternoon we enjoyed the town. It's cozy and manageable with small shops, cafes and historic houses. You get a good impression of what it looked like when gold miners filled the streets. The weather has once again been fantastic. A bit unusual for Skagway, but good for us🌞
