Today the cruise ship arrived in Juneau. The entrance was really beautiful π Juneau is the capital of Alaska and has about 30,000 inhabitants. The city is quite isolated as it can only be reached by plane or ferry. It rains a lot here - locals said they've only had a handful of sunny days in the past few months. Luckily, the weather from yesterday continued and we had cloudless weather all day π. Everything is just better in the sunshine - how lucky are you π In Juneau we had rented an electric car with free power. All trips here are crazy expensive, so a rental car actually made a lot of sense. It cost $1100, but in return we had all the flexibility in the world. We got to see the city, Mendenhall Glacier, the trek to Nugget Falls, and several of the beaches in the area. At Eagle Beach and Auke Bay there are usually lots of whales and seals - we only saw a large number of seals. Many locals were at the beaches because the temperature was a summery 22 degrees. Prices in Juneau are crazy expensive for tours and souvenirs, so we like to find great experiences in nature that don't cost π There are many bears in Juneau - it's quite common to see them even in the city. Unfortunately, we didn't see any, although we really kept an eye out!
