This morning we left Baku, the vibrant capital of Azerbaijan, heading toward the Caucasus Mountains and the old mountain town of Lahij. We’ll be spending the next two nights here with a local Azerbaijani family in an authentic homestay 🏔️🇦🇿 But the adventure started a little earlier than expected… Suddenly we hear a huge BANG from the car as we slowly drive through Lahij’s narrow cobblestone streets 😳 We jump out immediately thinking: “What on earth did we hit?!” After a quick check, we discover that the right front tire is completely flat! 🚗💥 In the middle of it all, a friendly local resident comes to our rescue and helps us carry our luggage while the car has to be left behind in the rain. Shortly after, our host father arrives to pick us up. With a big smile, he assures us that they’ll get the tire fixed 🔧 As soon as we get inside, we’re welcomed with hot tea and homemade sweets while the rain pours down outside ☕🌧️ The family doesn’t often host tourists, so the experience feels even more special. The host father speaks good English, while the host mother only speaks Russian. We have some great conversations while the children listen with curiosity 😊 Tonight they’re going to prepare a delicious dinner for us, which we’re really looking forward to 😎 Both of them are teachers, and the host father is even the principal of the local school. Here in the Caucasus, the roads can sometimes be closed for several days at a time because of the weather and the mountains surrounding the town. Now we’ll just have to see where the adventure takes us…
