Today we continued on to Ganja, which is Azerbaijan’s second-largest city with around 340,000 inhabitants. It’s a city where you don’t encounter many tourists, and because of that, everyday life here feels especially authentic. In many ways, Ganja is completely different from Baku. The pace is slower, prices are lower, and the atmosphere feels much more local. It may not be a city packed with classic tourist attractions, but that’s exactly what makes it exciting to be here. You get a much more genuine insight into life in Azerbaijan — far away from the places that usually dominate the tourist maps 😃 We’ve gradually become a bit lazy, so just like in Baku, we decided to leave the car parked at the hotel and simply get around by taxi using Bolt. That way we avoid parking, traffic, and the hunt for available spaces. Here in Ganja, though, there’s also noticeably less traffic police around than in Baku, where in some places it almost feels like they’re standing around every corner ready to hand out fines 😅 And when prices are this absurdly low, it almost makes no sense to do anything other than leave the car parked. Examples from today: 🚕 Taxi ride of around 15 minutes: 7 DKK 💈 Men’s haircut: 25 DKK 🍗 KFC for all four of us including drinks: 110 DKK 🍷 Fancy dinner restaurant with wine and drinks for the whole family: 250 DKK in total It’s honestly crazy how far your money goes here compared to Denmark.
