Our 3 days / 2 nights trip took us to Komodo Island, among other places. That's exactly what this post is about ๐ Only on a few Indonesian islands do the giant Komodo dragons live freely. These include Rinca and Komodo Island, which we visited. It was a unique experience to get close to these dangerous and huge animals. On our guided hike, we saw several large and small monitor lizards. Fortunately, the children remained calm. Good for them, as a monitor lizard attack can be deadly. A monitor lizard can live up to 50 years. One of the monitor lizards we saw was around 30 years old according to the guide. --- Our small ship has room for 10 passengers and 5-6 crew members. We are our family of 4, 3 Germans, 2 Dutch and the crew. The ship is older and if it rains too hard, a little water comes in from the leaky windows. Few people would call it a luxury ship, but it is authentic ๐ Compared to the cruise ships we usually sail with, this is a significant downgrade ๐ Our cabin is the top one and we have a panoramic view of the sea. There is air conditioning in every room. Our cabin is the only one with its own toilet and shower. As the cabin is at the top, we can feel the sea even more than the other cabins, but we don't complain as the Germans live below deck right by the engine room. It smells so much of diesel and the noise from the engine is insane. Big respect to the Germans who put up with it without complaining ๐ The food is good ๐ 3 meals a day with small snacks in between. The crew is also really polite and nice. There is a really good atmosphere on the boat ๐คฉ We have some really good conversations on board. Most of them are very well traveled, so they often talk about traveling ๐ The conditions are extremely primitive, but the experiences, sea and nature are simply magnificent๐ค
