We woke up in a castle. Yes, it's quite nice. Yesterday we checked into Castle Unghern. Accommodation in Moldova is generally very cheap. Here we paid about 700 DKK for a room, which is actually on the expensive side. In most other places we have paid about 500 DKK including breakfast for all four of us. After breakfast we drove towards Chișinău. It's only about 38 km, but it still takes about an hour because of the roads and traffic. Chișinău has about 700,000 inhabitants and actually houses a large part of the country's population. The city is very much characterised by contrasts. You go from classic Soviet concrete buildings to newer, modern buildings within a few minutes. It feels quite Russian in several places, which is also related to the fact that Moldova was part of the Soviet Union until 1991. Today we went around and experienced the city. There are both modern shopping centers and the more local Central Market Chișinău. Chișinău doesn't have any major attractions, but there is a good atmosphere, and the city is actually worth spending some time in. The hairdresser is often a very good indicator of the price level. A cheap hairdresser in Denmark costs around 200 kr. Today we had to pay 55 kr. for a really good and thorough men's haircut. Yes, so thorough that it took about 40 minutes – and at one point there were two hairdressers working at the same time 🤣
