Yesterday, we left Vancouver Island on the ferry from Nanaimo and drove an hour and a half north along the stunning Sea to Sky Highway – a route that’s been named one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world, especially because of the mix of ocean, fjords, rainforests, and mountains. It really was a beautiful journey up here! Whistler is a well-known ski resort in the winter, and it offers gorgeous hikes in the summer. So, of course, we went on a 4.5-hour hike today. The best trails require taking the gondola up to the heights to get started. We’re only hiking for 2-3 days, but it’s worth it to buy a summer pass so we can use the gondola as much as we want over the next few days. It’s a bit pricey though – 2,600 DKK for all four of us. Everything is expensive in Whistler, but the vibe is all about vacation, and the town is super cozy. There’s really nothing cheap or bad to stay in – this is also where the wealthy come to holiday. Whistler is known as a luxury destination, and many affluent Canadians and international stars vacation here: Prince William and Kate, Justin Trudeau, Justin Bieber, Pamela Anderson – and many more. We’re staying at a resort and luckily found a great deal many months ago: 1,050 DKK for all of us – for a lovely apartment of about 60 square meters, where we can cook for ourselves.
