Weekend in Sicily

If you're looking to travel light, meaning without too much luggage, Ryan Air offers you plenty of options. It's easy and affordable to escape for a weekend. We found tickets, including all taxes and fees, for just €160 round trip. Sicily boasts a wide range of activities and a colorful history. We focused on the western part of the island since we only had three days for our getaway. We landed in the small town on the west coast called Trapani. The town's main attraction is the small islands located quite close to the coast. Levanzo and Marettimo are smaller islands with a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for hiking and swimming. Favignana is the largest island, featuring a charming little town filled with cozy spots, small restaurants, and lagoons with stunning turquoise waters. The island is about 6 km long, making it ideal and wonderfully affordable to rent a couple of bicycles to get around. We highly recommend this, as it allows you to discover several beautiful beaches hidden behind the cliffs. There are also tours available from the mainland that take you around to several islands, giving you the chance to explore caves and cool off while snorkeling. Palermo is easily accessible by train or bus. This city has a very colorful history, particularly concerning Sicily's notorious mafia, which primarily resided here and in Naples. Today, Palermo is a laid-back tourist town that exudes Italian charm, delicious food, and red wine. Be sure to stop by the Catacombs of the Capuchins for a truly chilling experience. Sicily is famous for its many delightful seafood dishes and the incredibly tasty dessert, Cannoli. Another local yet healthy dessert option is a plate of salad drizzled with their popular olive oil.
