Round Trip Through Senegal and The Gambia

In spring, we are setting off on a journey through Senegal and The Gambia. We fly from Hamburg towards Dakar with a stopover in Lisbon, where we have one night and a little more than a day in the city. It will be a brief return to the Portuguese capital and a pleasant pause before continuing to West Africa. The main journey begins in Dakar. We would like to experience the capital, the coast and everyday life, but also travel further into Senegal, where the pace and surroundings will be completely different. Senegal appears to offer a fascinating mixture of French influence, West African traditions, colourful markets, music and life along the Atlantic coast. Along the way, we cross into The Gambia, the narrow country that follows the Gambia River deep into Senegal. We hope to experience the river, nature, smaller towns and some of the local life beyond the traditional holiday resorts on the coast. We have a little over two weeks for the journey and would like to combine cities, nature, coastline and encounters with people along the way. It will be our first time travelling in this part of West Africa, so many details still need to fall into place. That uncertainty is also part of the anticipation: setting off for a region we do not yet know very well.
