At 06 we should all meet at Quetzaltrekkers office for breakfast and packing of luggage. There is no one to carry your luggage, so we should even carry it all - food, 5x1, 5 liters of water, sleeping bag and extra clothes for the night. We borrowed sleeping bag and sleeping pad free of Quetzaltrekkers. It is also possible to borrow shoes, backpack, etc. They have a great selection. The whole trip including food and water cost 40 usd per man - quite cheap. We have two guides. A local guy and an English girl. We are nine tourists to try their hand Telica volcano. Our two guides have fallen in love with each other, so they are about to find out whether their future should be in Nicaragua or in England. We took the local bus to Telica. From there began a long journey of 6-7 hours of hiking. It was only the last hour, it went very steep climb. All got a sweat and covered in dust. The toughest was almost the carrier luggage. Camp site located just downstream of Telica crater, so we had a fantastic view of the volcano. Telica sent lots of smoke up the whole time. We were surrounded by volcanoes, palm trees and rocks. A really lovely little oasis. We shared the spot with a horse and its foal. The mare was terrible udmargeret when foal ever drank. There was little grass up there but not much. However, there was no water, so some locals pulled it down to the river a few times a week. Its not much water. Why horse and foal will be up there at Quetzaltrekkers not. They considered whether they should do something but they can not find out who owns them - and they can not just take them. I could get close to the mare, and when we had a few bottles of water in excess, I went over to her so she could drink from my hand. She was about 3-4 liters of water. We hope its better than nothing ... I have never heard a horse small-hum complacent or happy that way before, while it drank. Just before sunset we went further up the volcano, so we could enjoy the sunset. It is possible to read more about Quetzaltrekkers and their tours on their website - www.quetzaltrekkers.com. By booking a tour of those supporting the same time the community as they do much for education of poor children.
