Isla Mujeres is only 12 miles long, so a bike is a great way to get across the island to look at. Rental bike a full day costs 100 pesos. The island is quite developed. The roads are good and they go all the way around the island. North Beach is the islands main city, but there are houses scattered all over. It is also here that the islands best beaches lie. Remember it can not be compared to the beaches of Tulum, which still Yucatan finest. Surrounding Punta Sur and along the east coast there are large beach villas with views directly to the Caribbean - but without the beach but with steep cliffs down to the water. A minus for the residents is that the east side facing the sea, so the wind is strong. There is much more sheltered on the west side, where North Beach is located, as it turns towards the Yucatan Peninsula. A bike ride around the island does not require much. There are very few hills, so distance can be done by all. Yet they prefer to see most of the island from a golfbil, which is probably the islands most widely used mode of transport. There is clearly money to be saved and exciting local courts to find Comida Economica, which is the designation of Mexican restaurants that sell cheap dishes. We can clearly recommend Loncheria El Poc Chuc, located in North Beach town. Fajitas cost 45 pesos. 3 tacos cost 30 pesos. Nachos with salsa, beans and cheese costs 40 pesos. Nachos are made not as we know them in Denmark, where we shake them out of a bag with different tastes. Of course you can easily buy the kind of shops. Restaurants are doing their own nachos themselves, so they are large and crunchy with different kinds of salsa to-uhm.
