Layover at Moscow Airport

Our flight to Moscow took off from Kastrup at 9 AM. It wouldn’t have been a problem if we had been delayed, since we had a whopping 9-hour layover to kill at Moscow airport. The airport wasn’t that big, but luckily there were some shops and restaurants to keep us entertained. We must have wandered around the airport about 15 times, popping into each store 4-5 times and trying out most of the restaurants. There weren’t many chairs in the airport, so if you wanted to sit down, your best bet was to head to a restaurant. Because of the lack of seating, all the waiting passengers were sprawled out everywhere. The airport looked like a city filled with sleeping homeless people along all the walls. To avoid lying directly on the floor, most had found newspapers to lay on, which made them look even more like the homeless. We passed the time watching reports about Cambodia and catching up on The Simpsons on Honey’s new phone. We snacked on Russian caviar and read nearly all of our travel books. By the way, we were lucky that our flight in Moscow wasn’t delayed. Just last week, there had been a massive snowstorm that hit without warning, grounding flights for hours. We met a couple of Danish girls who shared this story. They had spent a week in Kazakhstan (is that how you spell it???) visiting a friend who works as a geologist for Maersk. They had been driven around by a private chauffeur the entire week. Every expatriate employee had a car and their own chauffeur at their disposal all the time.
