A Joyful Reunion with Bangkok
Back to Khao San Road in Bangkok with lots of shopping Explore A Joyful Reunion with Bangkok through our first-hand travel stories, photos, routes,…
It was a joyful reunion with Bangkok as we finally landed at the city’s sleek new airport after a long wait in Moscow. What a difference from the airport in Moscow! It wasn’t terrible, but it just can’t compare to Bangkok’s. We headed straight to Khao San Road, which hasn’t changed much at all. But that’s perfectly fine since we’re only making a quick stop here and want everything within reach before we fly off to Cambodia tomorrow. I can already feel the shopping itch! There’s so much to buy, and it’s great to have such a wide selection to tempt all the shopaholic Danes out there. We had barely dropped our bags in the room before we were on our way down to Khao San Road for a full hour of Thai massage. Wow, our bodies were really put through the wringer! Just 180 baht, about 36 kroner per person. And that wasn’t the last massage we had that day! :) We took a tuk-tuk to Pat Pong, the vibrant neighborhood in Bangkok filled with restaurants, a massive night market, and plenty of lively ladies and gents. After wandering around the market and haggling over prices, we definitely needed some foot massages. Honny managed to snag 6 DVD movies for 500 baht, around 90 kroner. They had some awesome Gucci and DG watches and bags, but the prices were way too high. It seems like Khao San Road has become cheaper than Pat Pong. We overheard some Americans paying 1200 baht, about 200 kroner, for a fake Rolex watch. That really drives prices up and gives the Thais hope that all tourists are just as crazy and willing to pay that much. Meanwhile, on Khao San Road, we’re all on a budget, so no one is willing or able to drop 200 kroner on a fake watch. We had dinner in Pat Pong, where two main dishes, water, and a Bacardi Breezer cost us 550 baht, around 95 kroner. Khao San Road is the place where the party never dies, not even on a Sunday, so the street was buzzing when we got back. The music was blaring so loud that we could hear it all the way in our room as we jumped into bed. Luckily, we were so tired that we managed to fall asleep anyway.
