Finally arrived in Chile...

We landed in Sao Paulo, Brazil, right at 8 AM. Amazingly, we managed to get some decent sleep on the flight, but I wouldn’t say we were fully rested! ;) We had a quick stop in Sao Paulo for about an hour to refuel the plane. A flight can only go for about 12 hours straight, and the distance from Frankfurt to Sao Paulo took around 11 hours. We arrived in Santiago, Chile, right on time at 12:05 PM on Saturday. The last couple of hours flying over the Andes was absolutely breathtaking. The snow-capped mountains were stunning—what a beautiful journey... The last hurdle before we were free was customs. We got stopped because we forgot that you can’t bring fruits into Chile. Thankfully, we managed to apologize and got off without any further trouble! :) We took a taxi from the airport into the city center (15 dollars) and checked into a genuine backpacker hostel. The place was called La Casa Roja, and it cost us 24 dollars per night. After checking in, we decided to explore the neighborhood where we were staying. We were pretty hungry, so we found a local Chilean restaurant where we had 2 chicken dishes with salad and drinks for about 40 kr. There was so much food that we couldn’t finish it! :) Before dinner, we took a quick half-hour nap to make up for the lack of sleep. Feeling somewhat refreshed, we headed out to eat at a really unique Viking-themed restaurant. The owner’s grandfather was named Poulsen and came from little Denmark. The decor of the restaurant was really beautiful, and the Viking theme was carried out down to the smallest detail. :) The food was delicious—about 150 kr in total for two people, including soda and a nice bottle of Chilean white wine. The wine list was incredibly extensive, with over 500 different wines to choose from, so our waiter helped us pick! We ended the day at a local pub, where we struck up a conversation with some Chileans, despite the fact that the only language they spoke was Spanish, and our Spanish is pretty limited at the moment... ;) So, we had to rely on sign language and a bit of Portuguese from our Brazil trip!
