Visit to the Wineries

Yesterday, we discovered that Argentinians love a strong drink—just like in Brazil. This means that sometimes it’s nearly impossible for us to get through a drink that’s almost entirely made up of spirits! :o) Today, we managed to order something a bit different for breakfast. First, the waiter brought us peanuts, chips, and little rolls. Then, he came back with a long platter filled with cheese cubes, small sausages in tomato, meat in vinegar, sausage cubes, some as-yet-unknown things, and something we feared might be kidneys... Hmm, but we still tried most of it! :) Now we’re back at the hostel after visiting two wineries and one olive grove. We got a thorough insight into the production of wine and extra, extra fine olive oil. It even turned out that drinking a little olive oil before heading out to party is a good preventive measure—you can handle a bit more! :o) We traveled around to the different farms in a little minivan. Usually, the other tourists on these tours are mostly Argentinians, but this time we had two Americans, a Swede, a Norwegian, two Canadians, two Kiwis, and only one Argentine who spoke great English. It was really fun, and the conversation flowed easily! :o) In the evening, we met a couple from the wine tour down in the city, and we had dinner together. Their names are Brandon and Mercedes, and they’re from the USA and Argentina, respectively. They’re also just on vacation, as they live together in Aspen, Colorado. However, they’re facing a big decision soon since this is the last year Mercedes can get a work permit—her company is only allowed to apply for a green card three times. So, if they want to stay together, they either need to get married or move to Argentina. We had a really nice evening. It was actually the first time we were completely sure about what we were ordering since Mercedes was there to translate the entire menu for us! :) We enjoyed massive, massive steaks, plenty of wine, beer, and drinks all night long. The whole feast only cost 160 pesos for the four of us combined!
