City Trip

We didn’t sleep well last night because the rain was pouring down, and our room had just a thin roof—no insulation at all. Plus, there was a gap between the roof and the walls, so we could really hear the rain hammering down. Fortunately, by morning, the rain had stopped, so we headed down to the beach, where there’s a reserve for sea turtles. We got in for free—why, we’re not quite sure. There were different pools with fish, sharks, and turtles. We took the bus back to Salvador at 9 AM since there are no buses heading further north to Maceio. It was cheaper to take the bus back—only 4 reais per person. Unfortunately, we brought the rain with us, so when we arrived in Salvador, it was raining again. We quickly grabbed a taxi that took us to the Barra neighborhood, where there’s a hostel. We wanted to stay in a different area this time so we could see more of the city. In Sao Paulo, we had picked up a map of hostels that are part of 'Hostelling International.' So we’ve been staying at their hostels ever since. In the afternoon, we took a taxi to the shopping center "Barra Shopping." The prices in the stores are a bit cheaper than in Denmark, but we didn’t buy anything. We prefer markets where you can haggle and score a good deal. We struck up a conversation with some others at the hostel, and one Canadian guy could speak Portuguese. We had him chat with a taxi driver about where to find a good rodizio restaurant. "Rodizio" is a place with a buffet of sides, and the waiters walk around with meat that they slice right at your table—so delicious! We headed over to the Pituba neighborhood, where there was an amazing, tasty, and affordable restaurant. It only cost 29 reais per person. We didn’t pull our chairs in even once, and the waiters were busy refilling our glasses. The sides buffet included a salad bar, pasta bar, and sushi bar, as well as a cheese board. Afterwards, we went to Aeroclube, where we had been before. We walked over to Cancun, which is a restaurant during the day but turns into a nightclub later on.
