New Year by the Pyramids in Egypt
A one-week New Year trip through Egypt with a rental car by the Red Sea, three nights in Cairo and New Year’s Eve overlooking the pyramids of Giza.
Over the New Year period, we fly directly from Billund to Hurghada. We have rented a car, allowing us to explore beyond the hotel areas. We would like to see more of the Red Sea coast, find some good beaches and have the freedom to stop whenever something interesting appears along the way. A major part of the journey will be our drive to Cairo, where we will spend three nights. It is a long drive from Hurghada, but travelling through the landscape and arriving in one of the world's most chaotic cities at our own pace should be an experience in itself. In Cairo, we will of course visit the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, but we also want to experience the city, see life along the Nile and discover the contrast between the modern metropolis and ancient Egyptian history. On New Year's Eve, we will stay with a view of the pyramids. It will be a very special setting in which to welcome the new year and probably one of the highlights of the trip. We will spend the remaining days around Hurghada and the Red Sea. Hopefully, there will be time for relaxing, snorkelling and a few spontaneous drives before flying directly home to Billund.
