Holiday in Hurghada, Egypt, with a getaway to the pyramids in Cairo
At the end of October 2004 we toke a 8 days charter trip to Egypt. The tickets were very cheap - only 2000 DKK per person including hotel and flight tickets. Accomodation was not specified which means the hotel and its standard are unknown before arrival. The standard turned out to be very low - but nothing we had not seen before. It takes about 5 hours directly from Billund, Denmark to Hurghada , Egypt. We turned our backs to the borring weathers in Denmark and faced 30 degrees of sunshine. Sunshine is almost guaranteed in Egypt - it rains so seldomly. The country is very interesting to visit as it is very deversified and offers great attractions. 8 days are deffinetely not enough to see the whole country. We saw some of the attraction among others the Pyramids of Giza, Cairo , beaches, snorkling, the desert etc. Egypt is a muslim country but very open towards the West. Kisses and affections are however not allowed publicly which is very different from the life in Denmark. The price level is much lower compared to Denmark. A taxi drive in Cairo costs only about 5 DKK. Food and drinks are also very inexpensive - so you have the feeling of being rich. In generel, all prices are lower except when it comes to imported goods. There is much focus on security. Both the ordinary policeforce as well as tourist police are looking after your safety. You do not have to worry about walking into an unsafe area. In fact, Cairo is safer compared to other big cities.
