Israel and Jordan

Holiday in Eilat Israel with excursions to Jerusalem and Jordan

During January 2006 we went to Israel for 1 week of holiday. We had to fly really early from Copenhagen to we spent the night at a friend's appartment. Israel is a very interesting country packed with history. It is easy to spent several weeks exploring the country. This is the reason why we had to be very selective choosing what we wanted to se. Our holiday started out in the city Eilat, a destination for many visitors and also an easy access to Egypt and Jordan. Perfect, as we also wanted to pay Jordan a visit. Eilat is a city in the dessert where the average temperature is about 21 degrees in January. However, it is also a city located next to the Red Sea offering many kinds of water activities such as diving, snorkling and water skiing. The city has also a rich night life with many restaurants and bars. Just a 2 hours drive from Eilat you will find the Dead Sea, the lowest point of the earth - 400 meters below the surface of the earth. Due to the high concentration of salt and minerals in the water, you are able to floay on top of the sea - it is actually possible to sit up and read a book. We also visited the very famous and historical capital, Jerusalem. Just watching people on the streets were amazing as well as seeing the Crying Wall, Olive Mountain, the Holy Church containing the grave of Jesus and the place where he was crusified, and The Al Aqsa Mosque. Jerusalem is divided into different ethnical neighbourhoods which are also very interesting to pay a visit. One moment you are wondering the streets in the arabic queater, the next moment you are in the jewish or the christian neighterhood. Being so close to Jordan we also went to Petra, a historical place in Jordan, just 3 hours from Eilat. Several scenes from the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was shot right here in Petra.
