World-Class Golfing
We rented golf equipment and played on the beautiful course in Bukit Fraser, Malaysia.
We didn't quite reach our goal that we set yesterday, as the bus that goes up the mountain to Bukit Fraser only runs at specific times due to the one-lane road. The bus can only head up at certain intervals because it has to wait for all the traffic coming down from the mountain to clear out. The bus turned out to be really, really old. The door wouldn't close properly, and the driver was sitting in an old garden chair. We were dropped off at the foot of the mountain and had to wait for the next bus that would take us all the way up to Bukit Fraser. While waiting at the bus stop, we struck up a conversation with a 23-year-old Malaysian art student whose wife was a schoolteacher. He was also heading up the mountain and offered to give us a ride the rest of the way. A car from Bukit Fraser came to pick him up just in time, right before the traffic heading up was allowed to go. Hotel prices turned out to be a bit on the pricey side, but we managed to haggle the price down from 138 RM to 103 RM total. This meant we got an upgrade to a room that included breakfast. It was much cooler up here, so we put on our warmer clothes before heading down to play some golf. It cost 103 RM per person, but that included entry, clubs, and balls. I'm not much of a golfer and gave up pretty quickly; I could barely hit the ball at all. It was a lot easier to sink the ball into the hole. Honny, on the other hand, managed to get through all 18 holes several times. We had dinner at the hotel, where we tried the famous Malaysian specialty "steam boat," which cost 25 RM per person. It's kind of like fondue, where you cook various types of fish and vegetables in a pot.
