Visit to Brunei - One of the Richest Countries in the World

We’re in Brunei 🇧🇳 A new country for all of us!👌 It’s one of the richest countries in the world thanks to its vast gas and oil reserves. Here, the sultan holds all the power and wealth🫅 Unlike Miri in Malaysia, Brunei is very Muslim and follows strict Sharia law. No alcohol for us these days, and no affectionate touches in public, etc. Oh, and it’s Ramadan this month, which comes with pretty strict rules. Yesterday, we went to a restaurant where we had ordered food. Oddly enough, it arrived as takeaway, which puzzled us a bit. So we got ready to eat🌯 But right away, a friendly waiter came over and told us it’s illegal to eat before sunset. So we had to sneak the food back to our hotel room✌️ It was quite an experience walking around and seeing people at the restaurants in town with full plates at 6:25 PM, but no one was eating. It wasn’t until the official go-ahead at sunset at 6:34 PM that the food was finally enjoyed👌 There were so many experiences yesterday. Among other things, we went on a boat tour where we saw an incredible number of proboscis monkeys in the wild! ✅
