Sleeping in a dorm can sometimes be really noisy. Both of us had a restless night. A girl in my room started chatting on her phone in the middle of the night, while Honny had a very fidgety sleeping buddy who kept tossing and turning. Later that day, we had a flight to Salvador scheduled for 7:40 PM. We packed up all our things and stored them away so we wouldn’t have to lug them around all day. We took the metro, which cost 1.90 reais per ticket, to Praza Republica, where a hippie market was buzzing with activity. They were selling everything from clothes and incense to wooden kitchenware. We picked up a pair of pants that can be zipped off at two places—super fancy! The two pairs of pants cost 30 reais, which is about 60-65 kroner. At one point, we were walking down one of the streets by the market when suddenly someone shoved Honny hard. Thankfully, nothing more happened, and we couldn’t figure out if someone had tried to make a clumsy attempt to grab his camera... South America’s tallest building is also close to the market—41 stories high. At the top, there’s a restaurant where you can eat for 42 reais per person, which is a bit pricey by Brazilian standards. There’s also a bar where you can pay 25 reais for a drink and enjoy the view. We were feeling a bit stingy, so we settled for looking through the windows from the hallway instead :) The view was just as good... and cheaper. In the afternoon, we headed back to the hostel to check our bags and make sure we got to the airport on time. We had everything under control and wanted to take one last look at our flight tickets... only to find out that our flight was listed for May 15th—yesterday! What to do... It was around 3:30 PM, and we needed to be at the airport by 6:10 PM at the latest, so we hurried down to the agency where we bought the tickets. We ran all the way there. After some digging, the agency thankfully figured out that they had made a typo. Finally, we could head to the airport. A taxi cost 65 reais. We arrived in Salvador around 10:30 PM, half an hour late. We were getting tired, so we took one of the airport taxis instead of trying to negotiate a price ourselves. It also cost 65 reais. We had a note for a hotel where we planned to stay the first night. Some of the streets were blocked off, so the taxi couldn’t take us all the way to the hotel. We couldn’t find the place ourselves, so we opted for the first hotel we came across, as it’s not smart to wander around with all our luggage in the middle of the night. The hotel was a bit pricey—95 reais.
