Relaxation at the Beauty Salon

We went to bed late, but it’s hard to sleep in a dorm, so we were up by 8 AM. We headed down for breakfast, but we could definitely feel we needed more sleep, so we crawled back into bed. Around noon, we made our way to Santa Cruz to pick up our flight tickets. The mall also has an internet café, where Honny surfed the web while I wandered around looking for a sweater. It’s pretty chilly in Sao Paulo, and I only brought summer clothes, so I was freezing. Next to the mall, we stumbled upon a beauty salon where they spoke English. This was super important since it’s tough to explain how you want your hair cut using charades. Honny got a haircut for 20 reais, and I treated myself to a pedicure for 24 reais. I’ve never had such a thorough pedicure before! They used electric files, and my feet felt brand new afterward. Honny thought it looked so nice that he decided to get one too. There are plenty of restaurants in the area where we’re staying, so in the evening, we went out to find a place to eat. Once again, we asked at the hostel for recommendations, telling them we wanted a casual but good spot. Unfortunately, they misunderstood us a bit and suggested a cafeteria-like restaurant. Luckily, the restaurants are almost side by side, so we found a place with a pizza buffet. The pizza toppings are quite different down here. For instance, you can get a pizza with banana and cinnamon! :) Not far from where we’re staying is a little local bar called Fran's, where a samba band was supposed to play. It cost 16 reais to get in, but that also included free drinks for 14 reais. A 600 ml beer was just 1.8 reais, and a Smirnoff Ice was 8 reais. We’re starting to get a bit tired of their Caipirinhas, which they mix incredibly strong. At least you know what the bottled spirits are! :)
