After breakfast, we set off down the mountain around 8:30 AM, moving at a breakneck pace. When we reached Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters, we took a break, and I treated my guide to a cola before continuing our descent. By the afternoon, we arrived at Marangu Gate. But as soon as we got there, I felt an uncontrollable pain in my legs. Throughout the entire trek, my legs had been fine, but now I could barely walk. I later learned that if you come down the mountain too quickly, your legs can struggle to adjust to the rapid descent, which is why it's completely normal to feel pain. It would have been nice if my guide had mentioned that, as he didn’t say anything about slowing down the pace. It's almost mandatory to tip your guide and porters. So, I gave my guide $100 to distribute among the team. I think they were pretty satisfied with that. Plus, I had promised him my trekking pole after the trek, and I kept that promise! Afterward, I was driven to the Prince Masai headquarters, where Martha was waiting for me. At first, she wanted me to stay at the same hotel I had when I arrived, but I insisted on Keys Annex Hotel Moshi, as we had agreed beforehand, and that’s how it went.
