Jan got to the hospital early again with all our luggage. When I saw him again, I noticed he had the same rash as I did. The doctors examined him, and it wasn’t long before he came back and was placed in the other bed in my room. He managed to avoid getting an IV since he wasn’t dehydrated. Now we were both admitted to the hospital and were told we’d need to stay for 2-3 days. They had received the results of my blood tests, and they showed that my platelet count was very low. The normal count for platelets is around 150, and mine had dropped to 65. If it goes below 20, you can start having internal bleeding. We contacted our travel insurance, Gauda, who had their doctor call Adventist to discuss both of our diagnoses. The Danish doctor kept in touch with us regularly, which was a huge comfort when you’re in a foreign country so far from home.
