It’s lucky that we’re both morning people and wake up early. The beach is just a stone's throw from our bungalow, so of course, we headed there after breakfast. Jan started his day with a massage while I sat in the shade, recovering from the sunstroke I got the day before. We rented a motorbike again and took the short ride to Chaweng, where we went bowling, even though it was pretty pricey. Fifteen minutes of bowling cost 100 baht per person! We also had to check out all the stalls, as I can’t resist browsing. I ended up buying a silk scarf for my grandmother, whose birthday is coming up shortly after we get home. Jan managed to haggle the price down from 550 to 250 baht. Back in Lamai, I had to take a nap since I was starting to feel a bit sluggish again. Jan went down to the beach for a swim. Later, we had to stop by a pharmacy to get some fever pills, but Jan wasn’t too confident in the pharmacist’s assessment of my health, so we decided to go to the hospital instead. They checked my pulse, took a urine sample, and did a blood test, and thankfully everything looked fine. It turned out I didn’t have sunstroke but rather a stomach infection, which is pretty easy to catch abroad. We kept all the receipts so we could get reimbursed when we got home. The hospital was clean and very professional, so we felt well taken care of. When we got back, I was feeling better thanks to the pills, so we went out to explore the town in the evening. We found a place to eat and then a cozy bar afterward, where Jan ended up getting a bit tipsy, which is easy to do in the heat!
