Travel Day

As always, we woke up early, so we headed down to the beach, where there were already quite a few joggers out, even though it was only 6:30 in the morning. Boa Viagem beach is set up with small workout stations all along the shore. There are benches at different heights for sit-ups and bars for push-ups. While Honny got started on her workout, I laid down on the beach to soak up some sun :) We needed to be at the airport later that day, no later than 3:50 PM, since we were flying to Sao Paulo. Before that, we wanted to explore a bit more of the city, so we took a taxi to a square where there was supposed to be a market. It turned out there was nothing happening that day, so instead, we were taken to the largest shopping mall in Recife. Shopping malls are pricey compared to markets, and you quickly become "stingy" here, so we didn’t buy anything. The prices are pretty much the same as in Denmark, so we might as well wait to buy things until we get home. At 2:15 PM, we took a taxi to the airport, where we found out our flight was delayed. It was supposed to leave at 4:50 PM, but now it was pushed back to 6:00 PM. We passed the time at the airport by browsing the shops and getting a massage for 15 reais for 20 minutes with a "discount" :) Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only delay. The departure kept getting postponed, and we didn’t leave until 8:10 PM. This meant we wouldn’t arrive in Sao Paulo until midnight. We had a layover in Salvador, which is quite common here. The plane lands to drop off some passengers and pick up new ones—kind of like a bus. The good part was that we got served a sandwich twice since we hadn’t had dinner :) When we landed, we quickly felt the difference; we were no longer in the warmth. We were still in our summer clothes, and with a temperature of 12 degrees, we definitely felt the chill. In Recife, it had been around 25-27 degrees. We took a taxi to the hostel, Hostelling International, where we had stayed before. They didn’t have a double room available, so we had to take a dorm bed in separate rooms. It was 1:30 AM, so we took what we could get.
