Simien Mountains Day 4

Finally, we got a good night's sleep. For breakfast, we were served pancakes, toast, and oatmeal with raisins. It's our last day on the trekking tour. Today's trek was supposed to end at the top of a 4400-meter-high mountain. Considering I got altitude sickness yesterday, I decided not to go. I stayed back at camp with the cook. Once the others had left, I suddenly heard the ground rumbling. I looked up and saw a large troop of baboons running down from the mountains. They come every morning when the hikers are gone to scavenge for leftovers on the ground. The baboons aren’t shy at all. They got really close, and I could see their big canine teeth. They came way too close for comfort, so I had to jump around a bit to scare them off. Honny made it even higher than the trek was planned to go. He had great energy, so he continued up to higher peaks with the guard. Paul and Adrian headed down with the guide. When they got back to camp, we had lunch before we were supposed to be picked up and driven back to Debark. However, it took three hours for the car to arrive. The driver had had an accident with a sheep along the way—he accidentally ran it over. This meant we got back to Debark too late, and the police and tourist police had already closed up shop. Much to our dismay, we had to spend the night in the city. The "best" hotel was fully booked, so we ended up at a very basic place. We had been looking forward to getting back to Gondor, taking a shower, and enjoying a nice dinner. Instead, we had to settle for a cold shower—the first one in four days. It was cold, but it felt so good to wash my hair again.
