Jet lag in Seoul

Slightly delayed, we arrived on Saturday morning in the capital Seoul. We said goodbye to our travel companion who had been sitting next to us from Paris - a 17 year old girl from Australia who was on her way home. She still had 11 hours left in a plane before she was back home. She had gone with her mother, but they couldn't get home on the same plane, so she felt a little alone. From the airport we took the Arex train - 3,600 won per person. ticket and the route takes 45 min, which stopped 500 meters from our hostel. We had booked Stay Korea Hostel from home. They had sent us a very detailed route description together with our booking confirmation, so we went straight there without any problems. Seoul is super modern. The streets are packed with shops and trendy cafes - especially coffee shops. The locals must really love their cup of coffee because the selection is gigantic. If the people of North Korea could see this, they would not believe their eyes. We started our trip in South Korea the same way the locals start the day...with a cup of trendy coffee. Vanilla iced coffee costs 3,500 won. Then we continued on the subway to Dongdaemun, which is an area with markets and shopping malls. A ride on the subway costs 1000 won per person. ticket and a 500 won deposit, which is refunded when you return your ticket after each ride. We didn't drive anything in Dongdaemun. The shopping centers display fine Korean fashion, and the markets offer shoes in particular. This is not the place to go if you want to buy souvenirs and local crafts. We just had to get to know the Korean subway, so that we could better orient ourselves about the names of the stations that you pass. At one point, Jan jumps up: "Here we go". Jumps out of the subway, but the doors close right behind him. I have to continue to the next station and take the train in the other direction again. 30 minutes later we find each other again. We stand on opposite sides of a train and cannot hear each other. The platform is very long. I walk back and forth without finding him. A woman taps me on the shoulder and points. On the other side, through the windows of the train, Jan is waiting :o) Our hostel is a small family-run place located close to Hongik University. This means that the area is packed, packed with restaurants. People on the street are students. The selection of restaurants therefore offers something for every budget. The evening is warm, but not many places have a tradition of serving outside. We found a restaurant with open doors all the way to the street. Their specialty was barbecue. In the center of each table was a small grill where the meat was cooked. As always, many small side dishes of seasoned vegetables were served. You take a green leaf, some meat and some vegetables, roll it up and eat it. 9,000 won per person.
