Bus Trip to Jaisalmer

There were heavy heads after last night’s King Fishers. We had read somewhere that Indian beer could give you a headache, and one of us definitely felt that today :) We had to get up early and head out because we needed to catch the bus to Jaisalmer at 8:30 AM. Finally, we arrived. Five and a half hours later, we were greeted by a swarm of people, all eager to take us to their hotel. Back in Jodhpur, the first guy had already approached us to pitch his place, so the hustle and bustle started long before we even set foot in the city. After checking out a couple of hotels, we decided on Hotel Golden City, which cost 400 rs. It was a lovely, clean spot with a pool :) Feeling pretty hungry, we had lunch at their rooftop restaurant with a view of the fort. Tomorrow, we want to go on a camel safari, so we needed to arrange that today. It’s relatively easy since most hotels offer this experience. Our hotel was no exception, so after negotiating a good price for the camel safari, we were all set :) We opted for the luxury version because we wanted to see places that not all tourists get to visit. Plus, we’d get better food, a tent to sleep in, and evening entertainment out in the desert. We would be off for two days with one overnight stay, which came to 1000 rs per person per day. A bit pricey, but hopefully worth every penny. As part of the camel safari deal, we also managed to negotiate our hotel room down to 200 rs instead of 400 rs since we’d be staying there when we returned from the desert. Later, we walked up to the fort, which turned out to be really charming. There were winding little streets filled with stalls and small restaurants everywhere. We found a cozy little Italian restaurant for a late dinner, run by Indians, so we got to experience the Indian take on Italian cuisine :) We tried soup, lasagna, and pizza. The food was pretty good, and it was nice to have something that wasn’t so spicy for a change.
