Serbia

General information Serbia is a great country to visit and we can definitely recommend visiting Serbia. We had to skip a lot of exciting places during planning as 1 week in the country is an absolute minimum. There are very few tourists compared to other European countries. The tourists mainly come from neighboring countries. There is plenty to see and beautiful nature. The locals seem very friendly and welcoming. Some speak English, but there are definitely many who don't, especially among the older population. One thing we will NOT miss is that smoking is allowed in restaurants. An insanely large part of the population smokes and it is something that requires tilvænning🫸🏻 Temperatures We chose to visit the country in mid-October, which is also the school fall break (week 42). The temperature averaged around 20 degrees during the day. Some days up to 23 degrees, but others around 19 degrees. However, we had cloudless weather almost every day, so that made the experience even better. It did get a little cold in the evenings. In recent years, the temperature has been slightly higher at the same time. Another good time to visit Serbia is in September. Avoid the country in July, when temperatures can approach 38 degrees. Flights We flew with Wizz Air from Hamburg directly to Belgrade in Serbia. The flight tickets cost 1400 kr per person, which included checked baggage, which is a larger part of the price with low-cost carriers. Car rental We paid DKK 115 per day to rent a very spacious Ford Puma with automatic transmission. The car was picked up and dropped off at Belgrade Airport, which has the sharpest prices. There are cheaper alternatives. The roads are of good quality and traffic is simple. It is recommended to rent a car to get around the country. Food and price level Restaurant visits to really good restaurants with wine, beer and water probably cost an average of 250 DKK for all 4 of us (62.50 DKK per person). Yes, at that price, we could hardly finish our meal. You should be aware that Serbia is a very meat-loving people, so both portions and meat quantities can be quite large. However, we also ate significantly cheaper. A haircut at the local hairdresser, we had to drop just 25kr. Yes, the price level is quite affordable. Hotels Relatively cheap and of a very high standard. A 400 hotel in Zlatibor with a huge breakfast buffet cost just 387 kr for all 4 of us. The average for our hotel stay was 550kr. Which also included a 5***** hotel. All nights were with breakfast buffet and really a positive surprise.
