We’re now sitting in the airport in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on our way home after 12 truly exciting days 😊 In less than an hour we’ll fly with Turkish Airlines to Istanbul with a short layover, and at 17:45 we land in Hamburg ✈️ It’s been an amazing trip filled with experiences 🤩 From an authentic homestay in the mountains 🏔️ to mud volcanoes, Sheki, Ganja, and many other interesting stops along the way. There were also places we deliberately chose to skip, such as Quba and Khinaliq, as it would have meant too much driving 🚗 Azerbaijan is bigger than many people realize, and the distances can be felt quite quickly. We rented a car for the entire trip, and it worked really well 👍 But an important piece of advice: stick to the speed limits 😅 There is police presence and speed cameras almost everywhere in the country 📸🚔 It was almost an achievement in itself that we managed to avoid getting stopped by the police or caught in any speed traps, because they were everywhere! Azerbaijan is definitely not a country that breaks the travel budget 💸 Quite the opposite — it’s really cheap to travel around. But it’s also a land of contrasts. Some places are ultra-modern and very wealthy ✨ others are quite basic and poor. In our opinion, May is one of the absolute best months to visit ☀️ We’ve had plenty of sunshine and temperatures around 23–24°C. In July and August, it apparently becomes extremely hot 🥵 It’s definitely a country we can warmly recommend to adventurous travelers 🌍 It’s very easy to get an e-visa as a Dane, and our flights with Turkish Airlines cost a little over 3,000 DKK per person. In return, we got really good flight times 👍 Today we’re flying home at 11:30, while many other departures are often in the middle of the night. We deliberately tried to avoid those 😅 A clear recommendation of Azerbaijan from us 👌
